What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a chemical compound from the cannabinoid family that naturally occurs in the cannabis plant. Scientists have isolated 108 different types of cannabinoids in cannabis.

Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinoll or THC, is probably the best-known thanks to its psychoactive properties - it's the one that gets you "high" - but CBD is quickly gaining ground due to its potential therapeutic benefits.

Hemp Vs Marijuana

Hemp and marijuana are both from the plant species Cannabis sativa L. They contain a different genetic (molecular) makeup, that makes them a "different version" of the same plant.

The primary difference between hemp and marijuana, by law, is the level of THC.

Federal compliance does not dictate which species of cannabis is grown. If the cannabis has a THC content less than 0.3% by weight, the plant is considered hemp.

Full Spectrum Vs Broad Spectrum

Full spectrum CBD is the most minimally processed type of CBD concentrate. It contains every plant material that can be extracted including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and fatty acids. The reason why some people don't prefer full spectrum CBD is because it contains every naturally occurring cannabinoids in the plant, which means it may contain THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis that gets you high.

Broad spectrum CBD contains everything that full spectrum CBD contains, except for the THC. This requires an extra step in processing to isolate and remove the THC, which is what makes it possible to consume CBD without any psychoactive effects.
